Katatra Vasquez is a native of Dayton, Ohio but presently resides in Oak
Ridge, Tennessee. She is a history enthusiast who has a passion for revealing the stories and the contributions of marginalized people in what is known as mainstream American history. A graduate of Tuskegee University, her public servant career as an environmental scientist historic preservation specialist has spanned over 20 years. She has been recognized several times for her work in protecting American spaces. Often overlooked or merely regulated into a box of the downtrodden, Vasquez believes that the basic human quest for hope, told through connective stories, will foster a sense of belonging, educate, inspire, and uplift. Katatra is the author of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math Travel Activity Guidebook, Atomic Hope: Our Words and Our Spaces, Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She recently released a new book Josie’s Hope: A Secret City Revealed that chronicles the life of an un-expecting character as she reveals what would become of her hometown.
