About the Event
About the Workshop:
Stories have the power to connect, teach, heal, and root us. This creative storytelling workshop will provide the space for attendees to consider how their personal story is connected to others. Through a series of introspective writing prompts, each attendee will be encouraged to reflect on their past, present, and future--including the impact of events and people in their life and the legacy they want to leave on others. These prompts will flow into a creative time where attendees will make a commemorative piece that is reflective of their story. At the end of the workshop, attendees will circle up to share this piece with one another (3-5min per person).Â
All materials needed will be provided and include: fabric, paint, collage materials, markers, markers, paper, audio recording and more! Â Although it's not required, attendees are invited to bring along items from home to weave into their commemorative peices!
About the Workshop Leader:
Jalynn Baker is a photographer, writer, and lover of people. She is a firm believer in the power of engaging with stories--knowing, telling, and listening to them--to build empathy. Her own creative practice is inspired by the wisdom of Maya Angelou, who said, "You can't really know where you're going until you know where you've been." She incorporates elements of writing and photography to help others tell their stories, and is currently experimenting with ceramics and embroidery to preserve her family's stories.Â
