We tell our own stories of
now and then.
The Community Podcast Studio at The Bottom is a community recording studio working to create accessible and affordable entry points for particularly African American audio makers, and to activate an approachable DIY audio community in Knoxville.
Even the most talented storytellers and content producers can find it difficult to develop a podcast if certain factors are not mastered.
Our 2022 Podcast Cohort was made possible in part through funding received from TN Arts Commission.

The Community Podcast Studio will support audio makers in the following ways:
Recording: Production resources can be hard to find and expensive but are important for quality sounding audio. We run a professional recording studio and prioritize affordability for everyone.
Training: Everything from editing, interviewing, sound design and marketing... We understand that a lot goes into making quality audio work. Everyone might not be good at everything but we do have local experts and we want to draw on their expertise to offer hands on training for makers of all levels.
Community: We are fostering a gathering place for podcasters, radio reporters, oral historians, sound artists, musicians, and more.
Interested in joining our 2022 podcasting cohort?
To launch our new studio, The Bottom is collaborating with Public Radio Exchange (PRX) to offer an innovative podcast training developed by PRX.
We are looking for individuals and/or groups who have a podcast idea that they would like to develop into a published show. Participants who will be selected from the greater Knoxville area will engage in a 8-week curriculum to develop new skills, which will include digital content development, cultivating, audience engagement, and monetization.
Training will take place at the Bottom on Saturday mornings from January 22 to March 12 2022.
